Design Börse Düsseldorf 2009

Design Börse Düsseldorf 2009

Düsseldorf/Germany: “Why don’t you organize this fantastic event twice a year?” Questions like this and encouraging comments by
enthusiastic design lovers still make the organizers smile. But Ute Mirbach and Jan Hasenberg stick to their strategy: DBD once a year, growing slowly and improving steadily. The result is visible: the 11th return of DESIGN BÖRSE in November 2009.

With just the idea, a romantic 1800-square-metre industry hall, 45 dealers and dedicated collector-friends they started in 1999 with the first Design Börse, it became a success! From the beginning it turned out to be a lively event, and the first Germany-based market exclusively for international vintage 20th Century Design on a high level, comprising professional dealers as well as private sellers, got off to a start. From then on, the DBD attracted more and more people, dealers and visitors, and today, DESIGN BÖRSE DÜSSELDORF is THE annual German Fair for Modern Design Classics – with its 11th return in 2009 presenting more than 140 dealers over 4000 square metres: The11th return is envisaged for November 28/29, 2009, with again finest 20th Century international design.

Visitors from USA, Japan and nearly all European countries meet in Düsseldorf every fall. Indian summer on the Rhine combined with some great finds – a rising number of visitors have already made a tradition out of it. They combine their design trip to Paris/France, Amsterdam/Netherlands or Antwerp+Brussels/Belgium with their visit to Düsseldorf – and they are delighted! At the DESIGN BÖRSE, they find all the important European Design Galleries – and even more, a talk with the young new gallerists and co-collectors who act as one-time sellers is always appreciated!

Classic interior design pieces, furniture by architects, glass, ceramics, collector’s silver jewellery, modernism, Bauhaus, the 50ies to the 90ies, the program is manifold, due to the variety of offering galleries and private collectors. What they think the visitor could love – they bring it! From Bauhaus via Scandinavian and American Mid-century to Memphis – several hours are needed to cover the whole Design Börse, a concentrated event that starts on late Saturday afternoon for the sellers (4 pm) and opens on Sunday morning for the public.

Café – bookshop – Europe’s most important Auction Houses for Modern Design with info-booths – ample parking space – public transport “Grossmarkt/Nordfriedhof” – close to Düsseldorf airport . Worth mention: DJ Gaertner der Lueste, Ralf Ilgner, who empowers the visitors with his fantastic compilation of downbeat rhythms!

Modernism + Art20 Fair 2009

Modernism + Art20 Fair 2009

Modernism:
A Century of Style and Design, the original and foremost fair devoted to the European and American design movements of the 20th century, has been a staple in New York’s fall season since 1986. Still at the forefront of design, the event bears the standard for an entire market. If imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery, Modernism: A Century of Style and Design has been complimented by subsequent appearances of similar fairs all over the world.
Over sixty international dealers will bring museum quality prototypes, fine art and rare pieces of furniture, glass, silver, textiles and more. Displays will encompass decorative arts movements such as Wiener Werkstätte; Arts and Crafts; Scandinavian; Art Deco; Post Modern; the 50’s 60’s and 70’s; and contemporary design.

Art20:
In its seventh year, ART20 is the premier show in New York’s fall art season. Fine art spanning from 1900 to contemporary, including examples of Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Hard Edge and Social Realism, will comprise the diverse selection of works on display and for sale. The Pavilion of Art & Design London

Building on the success of its previous two years, Patrick Perrin and Stéphane Custot have expanded DesignArt London to create a new concept, the Pavilion of Art & Design London. The Pavilion of Art & Design London will mirror its elegant Parisian counterpart, the Pavillon des Arts et du Design Paris, now on its 13th year and held in the prestigious Jardin des Tuileries, by encompassing fine art in its repertoire. The London fair, held in Berkeley Square in Mayfair, will run simultaneously with Frieze week, from the 14th to 18th October. During this time, the Pavilion will house an impressive stable of 45 established international exhibitors who represent the leaders in their respective fields of Modern Art and 20th Century Decorative Arts.
Visitors and collectors alike can take in the wide breadth of works of unparalleled quality and innovation, which rival a museum’s collection. Several new exhibitors will join the design panorama this year including Yves Macaux and Anne Autegarden, both from Brussels. Modern art exhibitors will include Hopkins‐Custot (Paris), Ben Brown (London), Jacques de la Béraudière (Geneva), Lefèvre Gallery (London) and Richard Nagy (London). Returning galleries to the fair include Cristina Grajales (New York), R 20th Century (New York), Louisa Guinness, Rove Gallery, Adrian Sassoon, Carpenters Workshop and David Gill, all from London, and the Parisian galleries of Yves Gastou, Galerie Italienne, Chahan Gallery, HP Le Studio, Alain Marcelpoil, Pierre Passebon, Clara Scremini, and Rossella Colombari.
The originality and importance of the pieces, the carefully curated booths, and the meticulous selection of the galleries and dealers themselves is what generates the high calibre of this fair and verifies the Pavilion of Art & Design London’s reputation as a significant player in the international art and design scene.

21° Puces du Design 2009

21° Puces du Design 2009

On October 8, 9, 10 and 11 2009, more than 90 antique dealers specialized in ‘50 to ‘80 fashion and furniture will be gathered Quai de la Loire,on the banks of the Bassin de la Villette, Paris 19° for showing a subjective and elective selection of the most famous pieces of the 20th cen tury: Saarinen, Paulin and Panton, Prouvé, Mouille and Matégot, all the most famous signatures will be there but there will be less known pieces too that are interesting because of their original shapes, unusual material use and quality of manufacturing.

Puces: is in French ‘flea market’: a place where some people are selling second hand objects.
Design: is a discipline that wish to harmonize humane environ ment from the conception to usual objects until urbanism.
Puces du design: is a new and original concept created by Fabien Bonillo in 1999: he has gathered for the first time in Europe, antique dealers specialized in the second part of the 20th century, on the street and with free public access. According to these criteria of specialization and accessibility, the Puces du Design is still nowadays unique.

Today, all the magazines present interiors that associate contem porary and historical design. But 10 years ago, it was not so obvious: only a few specialists knew Pierre Paulin and we could find Eames armchairs in Emmaüs warehouses, which means that people gave them away….
In 10 years, professionals are more numerous, the exhibitors of the Puces du Design are too and the public, curious for the first time, has evolved as well. The visitor recognizes the most important styles of the 2nd half of 20th century, he knows the most famous designer names like Panton, Knoll or Prouvé and knows the difference between an original edition and a prototype, a new edition and a first piece.

For each Puces du Design, some events are organized to enrich this out-door rendez-vous with the most famous designers of the last century. Andrée Putman and Roger Tallon had supported the first editions, the ‘5.5 Designers’ did one of their first exhibition for the Puces du Design in 2004… and in October it will be the same.

Cédric Morisset, exhibition cu rator who is used to work on new talent emergence will show an event on recent design

Held three times a year, buyers visiting the fair will find an abundance of ”conversation pieces” for their decorating schemes: unusual, yet practical items of furniture, one-off upholstered pieces, original lighting, quirky accessories, bold mirrors, colourful ceramics and glass, architectural salvage & garden furniture, works of art of all periods, from over 140 exhibitors from the UK and Europe. All this, and with the reassurance of buying classic design with an intrinsic value and lasting worth.

Set within the grounds of Battersea Park, the complimentary shuttle service from Sloane Square, free parking (limited) outside the Marquee, a fabulous licensed café/brasserie, on-site packing & shipping and the opportunity to bring along your (well-behaved) dog, makes the Decorative Fair a convenient and relaxed event in which to browse and buy.

There will be much flag waving to honour the Best of British this September. From lofty Georgian cabinet making, to artisan country furniture – all will be for sale in the themed Foyer display of this yearís Autumn show, staged with the assistance of dealer Alasdair Brown. Featured will be some of the best known designs and makers of the last four centuries, many responsible for setting standards which still resonate around the world. Displayed for sale from exhibitors at the Fair will be fine examples of furniture and design (including textiles, ceramics and glass) from the 18th & 19th centuries, the great Arts & Crafts period, wartime utility design and echoes of the Festival of Britain spirit with pieces by well known modern designers such as Robin & Lucienne Day, Ernest Race and Terence Conran.

London Decorative Fair 2009

Decorative Fair London 2009

Launched in 1985, the Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair has led the way as the antiques fair for interior design. It was the first in the UK to offer a ‘look’ for decorating. The Spring event, runs Tuesday 21 April through Sunday 26 April 2009. Each year the Fairs are held in January, April and October at The Marquee, Battersea Park.

“After many years of minimalism and simplicity, I think people want to add more personality into their homes…” Sir Paul Smith

This recent statement by the eponymous British designer may be one of the reasons why the Decorative Antiques Fair, unlike some others, has seen continued growth in the past year, with an unflagging demand from increasing numbers of both decorators and private buyers for the stock they bring to the Fairs.

At the 2009 Spring Fair, the special theme in the Foyer with be The Club Room, featuring all items one might associate with a classic gentleman’s bolt-hole: a complete Victorian billiard room, comfortable leather seating, a library area, sporting and gaming memorabilia, drinks-related items and associated decorative touches. All items will be offered for sale from exhibitors at the Fair, and will provide a perfect antidote to minimalism, offering some superb trappings of a comfortable lifestyle that has been appreciated for centuries!

Whilst the make-up of the Fairs has changed since they launched 24 years ago, the experience at the Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fairs has not. Buyers still find it the most inspiring and relaxed antiques event in the UK. Dealers offer interior decorators and private buyers the best design options around for a very individual look.
