Design September / Brussels Design Market 2010

Based in 2002, the Brussels Design Market is a flea market exclusively dedicated to the design, essentially of the beginning of the 50’s to the 80’s. Since 2009. On September 12th, about 100 exhibitors, professionals and design addicts will come from Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Germany and from Italy, to display their furniture and objects of the 50’s to begin 80’s in a friendly atmosphere.

The exhibitors bring rare and beautiful more anonymous pieces. You’ll surely find the classics : of Eames or Panton, tables Knoll, armchairs of Bertoia, etc. Scandinavian, French, Italian, American furniture, goes alongside to some ceramic and glass, collectors, plastic accessories, metal, wood or bakelite objects.

Brussels Design Market is an event within the anual Design September festival. During the last edition, there were about 80 events. Due to a reorganisation of the festival, there will only be 50 events at this edition. Expositions, conferences, debats, visits to design studios and flee markets will be a part of the program. Two major exhibitions at the “Atomium” and at the Electric Power Plant should contribute to an expansion of the design fever to larger organizations.

Well-known for 25 years as the friendliest and most exciting Fair in town, the thrice-yearly Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair is the UK’s leading antique and C20th design fair for interior decoration. Perfect for design-lovers seeking special one-off statement pieces, architects and decorating professionals sourcing the ideal item of furniture for a client, and anyone who prefers an individual look in their home; this is one of the most interesting events in the busy September design season. For the first time ever, due to unprecedented demand for space from the antiques trade, exhibitors’ stands will occupy part of the foyer. The Kennel Club Art Gallery exhibition will take centre stage, displayed on a purpose-built exhibition space in the middle of the Foyer. Works on loan will encompass pictures, sculpture, objets d’art and unusual historical items, as well as articles from the Club’s extensive Library. 23° Puces du Design 2010

23° Puces du Design 2010

The autumn will be design, the autumn will be retro, the autumn will be nice !

In last May, the Puces du Design has confirmed their position: in spite of a not springlike weather, 30,000 buyers, visitors, professionals and other collectors have been on the rendezvous for discovering, and buying, what the exhibitors coming from several places in Europe, had selected. For all the commentators, the spring edition 2010 was of high quality and the month of october is announced to be promising too.

From next October 8 to 10, while an exhibition in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs of Paris will give a tribute to design of the years 1945 to 1975, the hundred of exhibitors of the Puces du Design, all specialized in fashion or furniture from the 50’s to 90’s and rigorously selected, will be in the move for showing, and selling, post-warpieces that they have selected for you!

Like for each Puces du Design event, no tendancy is privileged in order to satisfy all the curiosities and interest centers and so that to present 20th century creations in their entire affluence and diversity: famous and unknown pieces, rare works for collectors or objects for everybody’s decoration, small lamps for under €100 or monumental sofa’s at several thousands of euros… This unique characteristic of the Puces du Design to gather in the same event, in a free public access, 20th century design in all its multiplicities, is one of the reason of its success; it will be, this autumn again, respected.

For this 23rd edition of the Puces du Design, the event will be on the stand of Flavien Gaillard Concept who will propose one of the first retrospectives dedicated to Max Sauze lights. Trained as a sculptor and born in 1933, Max Sauze has realized lights series in the 70’s or axceptionnel pieces that will be shown and sold, on the next Puces du Design: undertow the pop movement of this decade with its general use of plastic, Max Sauze elaborates steel lamps that play wonderfully with space and light.

This exhibition will light the work of a designer much appreciated by the professionals, but for the moment quite unknown by the public. It should contribute once again to the democratization and design education that play the Puces du Design since their creation in 1999 by Fabien Bonillo.

The Pavilion of Art & Design London 2010

The fourth edition of the Pavilion of Art & Design London 2010 will once again run alongside Frieze Art Fair and the Contemporary Art Week at several of London’s international auction houses.

The changes to the fair in 2009 reflect a new overture and demonstrate how a blend of multiple aesthetics can create a veritable “Cabinet of Curiosities” for collectors of 20th century works of art looking to complement their passions with an expanded breadth and scope and medium and beyond the considerations of Contemporary Art.Our 2009 edition of the Pavilion of Art & Design London impressed visitors with the breadth and quality of Fine and Decorative Art and Design galleries internationally each sharing an enthusiasm for the creativity and commitment to the highest standard in their profession.

Modernism + Art20 Fair 2010

Modernism + Art20 Fair 2009

NY—Show‐organizer Sanford Smith combined his two fall fairs to keep them alive in a tough economic climate, but the results indicate more than just survival. The outcome of Modernism+Art20 shows stirrings of new life for these exhibitions and promise for the new season.
Attendance figures increased from past years. The preview, combined to benefit both The Brooklyn Museum and Planned Parenthood, started the fair off with an enthusiastic crowd numbering over 1400 patrons. The gala started with the Modernism/Brooklyn Museum Awards Ceremony honoring Yves Behar with the Young Designer Award.
Over the course of the weekend, the show floor saw 6,800 visitors, including a large influx of curators, press, decorators, design professionals, advisors, and collectors from around the country. Celebrities Michael Richards of Seinfeld, Gail Simmons of Top Chef, and Lars Uhlrich of Metallica were also seen browsing.
The combined presentation of decorative and fine arts received positive response from visitors and dealers alike. Exhibitors from both sides of the art and design spectrum rose to the occasion and incorporated new elements into their booths. Many hosted casual booth talks for visitors, giving deeper insight to the art and design dialogue.
But the interest went beyond general curiosity; attendees were serious, and dealers sold. Several booths sold paintings in the mid‐six‐figure range. Other exhibitors reported major sales and placements of furniture, sculpture, and design objects, including purchases made by important museums from around the country. The Brooklyn Museum, a partner of Modernism since its inception, acquired a number of objects for their Decorative Arts Department.
With optimism in the air, Sanford Smith plans to keep Modernism+Art20 together. The fair will return to the Park Avenue Armory in November 2010.
